Hey guys, thanks for all your well-wishes! But thanks for remembering most of all I received the best gift today – the PM declaring 23rd a holiday. Woohoo..

We celebrated our birthdays (an early one for me) at Cava, Jalan Bangkung on Saturday. As usual, we were the early ones arriving on time at 8pm whilst the rest dilly-dallied their way over.

*Sigh* Never seen a cake so brightly litted up. Felt like as if there was a heater or warmer in the room. +6Days for me!  Happy Birthday Shuks!

Yeah, the celebration this year was a little quiet without the presence of some. As much as I loved the way things used to be and wished that it would never change but I also like how things have turned out for me recently. Oh well..

Happy Birthday grrlie! Karaoke Tuesdee!

It was Weik’s birthday. Meeting him for the first time and he’s a really, really nice guy. Like a velvet teddybear. Here’s me and Aly at Genji in Hilton PJ. I was officially her date. Haha. We’ve just stuffed ourselves with sashimi, tempura prawns and green tea ice cream. Mm yums! Happy faces.

After dinner, we headed to Heritage Row. As we were walking towards Sa Vahn, we noticed this new bakery called Bisou (the logo looked exactly like Bijou). Very, very nice. I think it is new. They even have cupcakes. It was obviously dark outside and you can’t see the designs but they were pretty nonetheless.

With Sharon at Sa Vahn. Had a really great time despite the rough week I had and I have to say the same about Aly as well. It is not easy to face your biggest contender. However, we were ”unaffected” la.. Cheers! Hope you had a good weekend too

Yet another evilllll birthday theme that gave GKL a panic attack – Gerry and Trish’s black and gold night — which wasn’t so bad! When we were walking out of the restaurant, we looked like mourners out of a funeral.

Trish suggested Max! Kitchen and Wines in Tengkat Tong Shin. And yes, the food is very, very good.

Serving European cuisine of petite servings, the food is really worth the wait considering Max is the only chef whipping out art in his self-named restaurant. Good food must also come with good company, fantastic wine and excellent PR – we had  a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc on the house because of their delay in serving us. (Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough, New Zealand) 2005 ))

First we were indoors, upstairs…

But decided to be dine outdoors to enjoy the after-rain ambiance…

Bread and dip; Gerry camera-shy already!

Seira’s getting in the mood. Hmm… must be right after Chris’ story about the kinky lady in a headscarf A Glassed KL.

For starters, we had pan seared tuna loin, yabby lobster tail and air-dried sliced beef. All accompanied with a large bowl of salad. I agree with G that the seared tuna was the best. Cooked outside, but very pink inside!

And this is what I ordered: poached cod with creamy sauce of beans, pea sprout and fragrant bacon topped with alfafa. Was super! If you love fish, you should try this. And even if you aren’t a fan of fins and gills, you would after a bite.

We had room for dessert but apparently, Max’s oven was overworked for the evening. Trish was commenting that their chocolate molten is a killer! We’ll go back exclusively for dessert one of these nights! Maybe dinner at Ngau Kee first??!

… and we proceeded to twenty one bar+kitchen. Seira babes, they do serve coffee there. I no bluff you.

On the way, we saw the filming of Ceylon Road 50200.

Had to stop with the papparazzi shots after a while! Much to everyone’s relief!

And then it was time to yum char and have supper… usual la right?

Elvin’s Birthday at Harbour steamboat (Sri Petaling)

After getting stuck in the KL jam for 1.5 hours, we finally got to the Harbour steamboat restaurant feeling very, very hungry. Oh, and thirsty for some Japanese beverage too. I am sure you can tell from the birthday boy’s tight grip of chilled sake. Yummas!

If you think it wasn’t enough to last us the whole night, number 0 brought a smaller bottle of Shirayaki sake. Even the misai guy from the next table was a little curious.

More liquids: Steamboat here is really good! You don’t only have the normal ching tong (clear soup) but variations of herbal broth too. We had pork broth soup boiled with red dates, goji berries and corn. The other half was spicy tomyum.

Birthday boy and number 0. Number 1 showing off his scratches which he got when he was robbed that afternoon! Poor guy. If it isn’t a curse already that he is stick thin, a guy on a bike came down with a parang and demanded he hand over his laptop. The smart thing to do was to surrender, which he did of course. The robbers must have thought it was just funny to bully the skinny kid and pushed him down. Kinda like, ‘one for the road’ before zooming off on his kapchai. Sigh. Really hate these thieves.

Besides the variety of broth and ingredients in Harbour, you’ll be ‘entertained’ with the scribbles on the wall of the restaurant. You could write whatever you want, as long as it’s done ‘tastefully.’ Like this one here (the one with the ‘fro):

Also dining with us were Say Nee, Desmond and HH. Of course dinner didn’t just end there with Elvin coming out with weird poses like this one. 

After that, we had dessert at a store nearby that serves thong sui. I had the fah sang woo which was pretty good actually. The night didn’t just end there. Let’s just say that I really enjoyed driving the Mitsubishi Triton and that sago lolo in and out looks and smells different.

GKL’s Birthday

We had steamboat (what’s with steamboat this year man) at GKL’s bachelorette pad. Via email, the girls were planning what to bring and what not during the week. Finally when it was d-day, Gerry came over to prepare meancakes with me.

STEAMBOAT. It was like a sauna in GKL’s place.

Then it was the cake time. The masters of Scrabble got ready to unjumble the letters to spell…

Gangil? Haha.. well, GKL’s kinda weird sometimes.. Umm, girls but I think Lan Gai King is so salah. Sounds like the ah beng with gold streaks from Kepong.

Jil brought the coffee cake from Jerome’s that never goes wrong. Double yums.

Don’t cha love those candles? G got them from Bangkok. Perhaps that could be another item on your shopping list?

Sister’s Birthday

Another year that she’s away and couldn’t celebrate with my weekday afternoon gossip-buddy. El cheapo me could only afford to call her for 2 mins on my mobile. Haha! Might as well don’t call right?

I forsee we’ll be having plenty of birthdays this month! We are starting off with Sharon’s at Bangsar’s La Bodega. It was also great meeting up with some of my ex-colleagues since our last CNY card game session at Eel’s.

We’re missing Eel, Pink and the new mommie. But Sharon, Aly, me and Annie still had a fantastic time maintaining our level of craziness…

Birthday girl had her banana leaf rice, I had my usual maggie goreng, some had roti kosong except for that one person who could withstand all temptation. +5 points for good behaviour (hee hee, exclusive report for a certain girlfriend out there)
